Businesses get set to raise funds for Wigan Youth Zone

Wigan 10k charity runStaff at leading law firm, Stephensons Solicitors LLP, are going up against runners from PA Hull Chartered Accountants in Wigan’s first 10k charity run, to raise money for charity.

Eight dedicated members of staff at Stephensons as well as staff at PA Hull have decided to have a contest to see which of the two businesses can finish first at this year’s inaugural 10k. The team is raising money for Wigan Youth Zone and wants other local businesses to support the race, either through sponsorship or even taking part themselves.

Runners are raising money for six local charities and organisations, including Joining Jack, The Mayor's Charity, Joseph's Goal, Wigan Rotary Club, Wigan Youth Zone, Champsappeal.

The race will begin in Wigan’s town centre on September 8th at 10am. Participants will embark at Market Street where they will complete a route around several of the town’s landmarks. An array of activities will be on offer to runners and spectators. The 10k route starts and finishes in Wigan town centre.

A main stage will be located at the top of Market Street and an awards ceremony will take place for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed runners.

Louise Hebborn, a partner in the Commercial team at Stephensons, said: “We wanted to take part to raise money for a deserving cause, the newly-opened Wigan Youth Zone, and thought it would add a bit of fun to proceedings by making it a battle by PA Hull staff.

“We are continually trying to find ways in which we can give back to the community and we believe that this race will allow us to do that, if businesses dig deep and support the runners. It also promises to be a great day our for Wigan families.”

Simon Baker, Wigan Youth Zone Development manager, said: “Since opening in June, we have attracted around 6000 young members which is incredible. We need the whole community to get behind us as charity and any money raised will go towards us continuing to offer young people a place to go that is safe, challenging and fun.

“We are extremely grateful to Stephensons staff for running the 10k as local support is vital to us. In turn, they are helping to raise the aspirations of young people from across Wigan.
