A team of male staff from St Helens law firm Stephensons Solicitors LLP donned their female colleagues’ fluffy slippers today to raise awareness of a campaign to end violence against women.
The Stephensons group (pictured) took part in the ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ walk through St Helens town centre with other local support organisations including St Helens Council, Addaction and Helena Housing, to mark this year’s White Ribbon Day, a day when men are encouraged to stand against violence against women by helping to raise awareness of the issue.
Adam Pennington, Mark Pimblett and Paul Burrows took part on behalf of Stephensons’ Family and Housing departments, with female staff including Jayne Potter, Joanne Murray and Maria Chadwick also on hand to show their support.
Maria Chadwick, a family solicitor at Stephensons in Corporation Street, St Helens, said: “This is the first year we have taken part in this walk and I’m pleased that some of our male colleagues were happy to get involved and raise awareness of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse can take many forms and research shows that 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence or abuse from a current or former partner.
“Our family and housing teams often act for domestic abuse victims to help them seek a positive outcome, from helping them to get away from an abusive partner to re-housing them in a safe environment. We’re happy to do everything we can to help those who need our support and we hope today’s event will raise the public consciousness of this issue in the local community.”
