Lucky 13 for legal experts

Thirteen is a lucky number for Stephensons Solicitors LLP, for they have been recommended in 13 areas of law in the latest annual edition of the Legal 500.

The Legal 500 is the definitive guide to the legal profession and each year, its researchers undertake stringent research into the industry. The independent guide recommends law firms for their expertise by ranking them in tiers and also singles out solicitors for praise.

In the 2013 edition, published last week, Stephensons has been ranked in 13 areas of law, receiving commendations in the areas of commercial litigation, commercial property, employment law, professional discipline, professional negligence, transport law, crime, family, clinical negligence, personal injury, probate, local government and housing law.

The firm’s Professional Discipline team, based at Wigan Investment Centre, was recommended for the first time. The guide says: “Stephensons Solicitors LLP is appreciated for the ‘boutique service’ it provides to a broad range of medical professionals. Sean Joyce is the key contact.”

The commercial department, which includes litigation, employment and commercial property teams, led by Jonathan Chadwick, was also recommended. The guide says: “Stephensons’ Jonathan Chadwick acts for financial services and corporate clients, and is active in fraud cases.”

In addition, 12 Stephensons’ partners were singled out this year as ‘recommended lawyers’ for their expertise.

Ann Harrison, chairwoman at Stephensons, said: “We’re all very proud of our rankings in the Legal 500 this year. It is especially pleasing that our growing professional discipline department has been recognised for the first time having developed this area of the practice over the last few years.”

Stephensons has 36 partners and a turnover of £16.6 million to April 2013. The firm has a network of offices in Manchester, Bolton, Middlebrook, Wigan, Leigh and St Helens and earlier this year added two new offices in Hammersmith and Tower Bridge in London.
