Stephensons is very proud to be supporting Headway's Action for Brain Injury Week, which will take place between 12th and 18th May. As part of the week, we will also be wearing hats around the office during the charity’s Hats for Headway Day on 16th May to show support for the cause and also to raise awareness.
Every day more than 2,500 people in the UK suffer a brain injury and the purpose of Action For Brain Injury Week is to try and educate people about the causes of brain injury and the ways in which it can impact on people’s lives. The event also aims to raise money and to help those who are suffering from a brain injury to put their lives back together, so it’s a chance to really make a difference.
This year, Action for Brain Injury Week is particularly important as the cuts that have been made to essential support services as a result of welfare reforms and spending reviews have left many of those who have brain injuries, as well as their families, without a lifeline. As part of the week, Headway has collected information on the ways in which local authority cuts have affected sufferers and their families and this survey of people’s experiences is due to be published during the course of Brain Injury Week. A big part of the campaign for this year’s Action for Brain Injury Week is the slogan 'Don't cut me out!' which is designed to raise awareness of these cuts and the effect they have had. Headway is aiming to use the event to be the voice of brain injury survivors across the UK and to draw attention to the fact that the cuts have begun to make life very difficult for many people.
In addition to the key purpose of raising awareness about brain injury, and the effects of the cuts on those who live with this kind of condition, the fundraising element of the week is also crucially important. The charity not only provides a way of educating people about brain injury but also offers essential support to those who need it the most.
Hats for Headway Day is part of the series of events during the week and combines the purpose of raising money for a fantastic cause with the chance to sport a fantastical piece of headgear to the office. At Stephensons we will all be designing and creating our most impressive hats and wearing them around the office to show support for the charity. There’s a prize too for the best ones.
If you also want to join in with Action for Brain Injury Week then there are many ways that you can do it – the Hats for Headway Day is a very easy and fun option for getting lots of people involved. Plus, for the first time this year Headway is also organising a competition to reward the best hat, with two prizes available, one for the best individual hat and one for a company or office shot.
