Emergency protection order

An emergency protection order is an order issued with the aim of protecting a child from ongoing or imminent risk of physical, mental or emotional harm where emergency action is needed

Evidence

Documents or other material which is used to support a person’s case.

Ex parte hearing

An application to court where one party puts their case to the court without the involvement of the other party. Also known as ‘without notice’.

Expert witness 

A person who is employed to give evidence on a subject in which they are qualified or have expertise.
