International contentious probate claims

Bringing or defending a claim relating to an estate, whether it be a validity challenge against a will, a claim under the Inheritance Act or a dispute with an executor, can be a difficult task. And so, when you or other parties live abroad, it may appear a daunting task to take on.

It is increasingly common for people to move abroad and set up new lives on the other side of the world, with their families often remaining in their home country. And so when a relatives passes, and their estate is being administered in the UK, it may feel that you do not have any control or input in the matter.

This is where we have been working with clients over the last couple of years to provide assistance in these difficult times. Our team have had many international clients in countries such as China, New Zealand, Italy and many more.

Our international clients receive the exact same high standard of service from our team as any other client residing in the UK. They have noted how the distance and time difference have had little impact on their instruction and the service received from our team. If you'd like to speak to us please call 0161 696 6178 or complete our online enquiry form and we'll contact you directly.

Case studies

In 2022 we successfully settled a complex dispute for a client residing in China. Following the death of a relative who resided in the UK, we were not only able to manage and issue the claim on their behalf, but we were also able to facilitate a remote mediation across two time zones. We secured a successful settlement for the client and all parties were able to conclude matters efficiently and effectively.

This year, we have been assisting a client who resides in Italy in both applying for probate and handling a claim against the estate. Our client has been be able to defend the claim without being negatively impacted by their residence outside of the UK and we continue to assist her in doing so.
