You’ve found the property you want, arranged a mortgage you can afford… now comes the task of finding a solicitor who can deal with the legal aspects of your transaction.
It can be confusing to know which solicitor to choose. Many home buyers, particularly those buying their first home, have never had any dealings with a legal advisor before. Prices can also vary dramatically in the local area. You may also consider if the location of your solicitor is important to you? Many legal services can now be processed without having to physically visit your solicitor.
These are all deciding factors, but the key thing is to hire a solicitor as soon as possible in your home buying process, so that they can be ready to get things moving as soon as your offer is accepted.
With so much to consider, the Law Society has stepped in to make finding a good residential property solicitor easier.
They’ve launched a new quality standard for property lawyers which I believe will bring more clarity when it comes to choosing a solicitor.
The new Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) will enable movers to easily identify the best property solicitors in their local area, so that they can be assured of an excellent level of service and advice when carrying out their sale or purchase.
We are currently going through the application process to become a member of the scheme. It will give homebuyers an instantly recognisable kite mark, which will be proof of any member firms professional excellence and commitment to providing the best service.
