Megan has started the final year of her law degree at the University of York, she recently took part in our summer vacation scheme to gain practical experience to assist her with her studies. We asked Megan to share her experience, this is what she said:
"Participating in a vacation scheme gave me insight in to how a law firm operates and the day to day work of a solicitor. This experience helped to confirm that I do want to be part of a thriving legal environment, like Stephensons, and pursue a career in the legal profession. I hope that participating in a vacation scheme will make my CV stand out to future employers, as it shows that I have a sound understanding of the skills a solicitor should possess.
I enjoyed the freedom and responsibility that the commercial litigation team allowed me to have. At first, it was admittedly overwhelming, however this pushed me to fully engage with the tasks assigned to me. By corresponding with clients and courts, my confidence in my own professional abilities developed, which was extremely rewarding. I also enjoyed receiving advice from each member of the department about the legal profession and how they entered into it.
Client care at Stephensons is of paramount importance, and this is what attracted me to apply for the summer vacation scheme. From my experience at the firm, it is clear that the staff at Stephensons have a passion for their clients, and really do strive to do their upmost for every client. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills from the firm that I will continue to build upon in my legal career."
