Workplace stress and employee burnout are significant issues in many organisations. While they can affect anyone, at any time, those in leadership or management positions often cite burnout as mitigating factors in their decision to leave a role, or indeed, make a claim against their employer.
Whilst many people don’t go on to become Prime Minister and face those kinds of pressures in the public eye, there are many people who will recognise and sympathise with Jacinda Ardern’s decision.
In organisations across the country, there will be employees facing a huge amount of pressure and stress, and often that is set against a backdrop of little support from their employer. Organisations must ensure they go beyond the usual suite of HR policies to proactively offer support, monitor activity levels and intervene if an employee is under significant strain or working too hard.
