5 cost effective marketing tips in troubled economic times

1. Make your staff your best sales people, put them on commission! This may not sound like a saving but if you provide your staff with an incentive to refer their friends and family into your business, your sales will increase. This will motivate your staff to grow your business. You have fulfilled the WIIFM ‘What’s In It For me?’ question that people ask themselves whilst simultaneously increasing the flow of new business.

2. Advertise your products and services in waiting areas with dynamic communication methods e.g. use a rotating screen, have a press pack available as opposed to magazines, so the messages they receive are all related to your company.

3. Make electronic communication channels work harder for you. If you send a marketing communication by e-mail using a special e-shot tool you have the ability to see how many people have opened your e-mail and track results. You cannot do this with physical post. You can reach a wider audience and market in a way that is more socially responsible to the environment but cutting down on paper wastage. You can also supplement your marketing, by using e-mail footers as another means to get your message across on all outgoing e-mails.

4. Put measurement methods in place to track the return on any money spent. If you utilise direct marketing, make sure you get prospects to quote a code when phoning, use a dedicated phone number or web page as a response mechanism etc. Otherwise how will you know if your investment was worthwhile?

5. Get Listed – Encourage appropriate websites in your industry to list your organisation on their website, this will help your rankings with the search engines and thus encourage more people to click on you.
