Charity football tournament - the results are in

This past weekend saw Stephensons Solicitors LLP, Fletchers Group, Premex Services and Coben House Chambers take to the field in a thrilling charity football tournament in support of Being There.

Stephensons opened the tournament with a 7-1 victory over Premex with Martyn Jackson, carrying over his form from his recent victories with Northwich Victoria FC, forging a lethal partnership with Cameron Stubbs.

The opening match was followed with a clash of the titans where Cobden edged a 2-1 win over Fletchers. This was an unpredictable game which provided very few clear-cut chances and lots of midfield battles. Cobden’s second half winner set up an all action final and third place play off.

The penultimate game of the tournament was for third place, seeing Fletchers square off against Premex. This proved to be the game of the tournament with Premex coming back from 4-2 down to draw 4 all, bringing the game to penalties. Unfortunately it was not Premex’s day and despite their hard work they missed out on third place after an intense shoot-out.

The final game of the day brought the best atmosphere as Stephensons faced off against Cobden. The game was well fought with the scores even at half time, a final score of 1-1 sent the game to penalties where Cobden triumphed.

Over the course of the tournament and corresponding raffles we have raised over £2,300. Despite finishing second we all felt like winners after doing our bit for charity as the real winners were Being There. Hopefully Stephensons will seek redemption in a rematch with Cobden in the future. If you still like to donate please visit our JustGiving page.

A massive thank you to all the players, spectators and those that supported the campaign who have helped make the event an unbridled success.
