As a firm we have an active Corporate Social Responsibility forum. Our CSR committee have decided to carry out a ‘time’ project at Barnardo’s Preston Foyer. The project involves a ‘changing rooms’ exercise in the common room area.
The centre provides housing for homeless 16 -24 year olds and housing support to assist and sustain independent living for young adults leaving care. They provide access to supported accommodation, emergency short term or more long term bond schemes. It is in essence ‘home’ to these young people some of whom have no other support.
To make this project a success we are hoping that local businesses and tradespeople will get involved either with donations of items or time to come along and help with the renovations. The centre has a wish list of items that they need for the room. As this area is used to socialise and to have meetings with professionals we want to make it as pleasant as possible. We need volunteers and donations for the following:
- Decorators (professional standard) for wall paper removal and complete repaint of the room – anticipated time 2 days total
- Floor fitter for solid wood flooring
- Handyman to put up wall art, curtain poles etc.
- Flat pack furniture builder
New items required
- New curtain pole
- Paint
- Flooring (already sourced)
- Curtains (the centre can chose)
- Computer desks
- New sofas
- Wall mounted magazine racks
- Coffee table
These sort of projects make a huge difference to centres who have stretched resources and also to the young people living there. They provide a space they can hopefully enjoy.
