Laura Owen

Biography

Laura qualified as a solicitor in 2005. She worked for a high street firm before joining Stephensons in May 2012. Laura specialised in family law but joined the clinical negligence department in May 2016 to pursue a change in direction of her career. She initially assisted the other fee earners before building her own caseload. Laura briefly left the firm in late 2020 to work for a local clinical negligence practice but returned to the team in July 2021.  

Laura has a varied caseload of clinical negligence claims including:

• Delay in diagnosis of strokes
• Orthopaedic injury
• Delay in diagnosis of cancer
• Misdiagnosis

Cases of interest

Laura has assisted on:

• A cerebral palsy case arising out of treatment during labour and delivery.  The case settled for approximately £2.6 million
• A brain injury case arising out of treatment following surgery.  The case settled for approximately £3.4 million

Laura’s cases:

• Laura settled a claim for approximately £2.3 million for a delay in diagnosis of a stroke
• Laura settled a claim in the sum of £200,000 for negligent storage of a patient’s frozen stem cells, leading to their death
• Laura settled a claim in the sum of £50,000 for negligently performed knee replacement surgery
• Laura settled a claim in the sum of £50,000 for late diagnosis of significant heart failure
• Laura settled a claim in the sum of £40,000 for a delay in diagnosis of giant cell arteritis
• Laura settled a claim in the sum of £30,00 for nursing failures leading to pressure sores
• Laura settled a claim in the sum of £15,000 for the delay in diagnosis of bladder cancer
