Firm's Females Fundraise for Wigan & Leigh Hospice
Around 20 women from local law firm Stephensons Solicitors LLP took part in Wigan and Leigh Hospice’s Star Trekker midnight walk to raise more than £3,000.
Wigan and Leigh Hospice is Stephensons’ nominated charity for 2009, as voted for by many of the firm’s 300 staff, and this year’s team of walkers was coordinated by Stephensons’ IT trainer Jane Jones, whose husband Mark was cared for at the hospice.
Jane said: “I want to say a big well done to all the Stephensons girls who completed the walk. In comparison to last year it felt pretty tough because more of it was uphill and as there weren't as many walking there weren't as many stops or delays.
“We all enjoyed the night and had an overwhelming sense of achievement to know that we've raised so much money for a fantastic charity. We set a target of £2,500 but we’ve easily smashed that and donations are still coming in.”
Ann Harrison, Stephensons’ chairwoman, also took part in the walk. She added: “It was a great night for a very worthwhile cause and we had a lot of fun. Wigan and Leigh Hospice relies on charitable donations like this to provide vital palliative care to many people in our borough who are facing life-limiting illnesses. All the girls should be very proud.”
Stephensons is already planning to take part in next year’s event and hopes to get an even bigger group of ladies together to beat this year’s impressive total.
